European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship, Nurburgring - Germany
Podium and points finishes in Germany for the VSR crews
After a two-month summer break the European Lamborghini Super Trofeo teams reconvened at the Nurburgring for round four of the 2025 Championship. A driver line-up change saw Italian Riccardo Ianniello join Adam Putera in the number 6 Pro entry whilst Am class leaders Piero Randazzo and Stephane Tribaudini remained together in the 66 Huracan. After two dry sessions of practice on Friday, the qualifying sessions were scheduled for early on Saturday morning. Light drizzle greeted the teams as Ianniello and Randazzo took to the track for the first session. Ianniello took a place on row five and Randazzo on row eleven.
A cracking start from Ianniello saw the youngster rocket up to fifth place over the course of the opening lap. On lap three Randazzo moved into fourth in Am and ran just behind Hamaguchi for most of the opening stint. The pit window opened on lap ten and Randazzo pitted straightaway for Tribaudini. Three laps later Putera took over the Pro car from Ianniello whose strong run through the pit window had moved the car up into fourth place. By lap fifteen Tribaudini was third in Am and a lap later Putera took third from Locanto before losing out to Geraci. As the leaders jostled for position he then retook third by passing Guerin before Strignano squeezed past to put him back in fourth. On lap nineteen Tribaudini passed Gillion to take second in Am just before a Full Course Yellow followed by a red flag ended the day’s racing.
For Sunday’s race Tribaudini took the Am class pole, qualifying fourth overall and Putera, despite losing his best lap for track limits, earned a place on row eight. Rain as the cars went to the grid saw the majority of teams swap to wet tyres. At the start, as the drivers tackled a cold and slippery track, Tribaudini fell down the order and lost the Am lead to Perolini. A confident start from Putera saw him up to ninth by the end of the first lap. As the track dried and his wet tyres suffered he fell back to thirteenth so the team pitted both cars for slicks as soon as the pit window opened. The second stint was marred by a lengthy Full Course Yellow but Ianniello, now in the 6 car, made good progress, passing Abkhazava and Nahra and taking the chequered flag fifth in Pro. Randazzo enjoyed a fight for the Am class lead with Ciglia before a spin on the penultimate lap lost him track position and he came home fifth in class.
With two rounds left to go Randazzo and Tribaudini hold a slender two point lead in the Am Championship and Putera is fourth in the Pro rankings. The next event is at Barcelona in October.
