PUTERA TAKES EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP FOR VSR AT MISANO FINALE
European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship, Misano - Italy

Putera crowned Champion
** Randazzo and Tribaudini one point shy of double Am title **
** Levet finishes 4th in Pro Standings **
** Asia Finals joy for Kingsford and Van Der Drift

The Super Trofeo teams convened at Misano this week for the Regional Finals of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship. European Championship front runners Adam Putera and Paul Levet were once again in the Pro number 6 Huracan whilst the Am standings leaders Piero Randazzo and Stephane Tribaudini raced in the 66 car. For the final round VSR also ran a Pro-Am car, number 298, in the Asian races, driven by Todd Kingsford and Chris Van Der Drift.

The Asian cars were the first to qualify and Kingsford set the second quickest time in Pro-Am, beaten only by Pro drivers, and started Thursday’s race from row four. A messy start saw the 298 car slip down to ninth overall, fourth in class. The pit window opened on lap twelve and Kingsford pitted straightaway for Van Der Drift. By the time the pit window closed the New Zealander was up to sixth overall, third in class, and chasing down class leaders Lee and Lu. One of the fastest men on track in the second half of the race he passed Lu on lap nineteen and took the class lead four laps later. With ten minutes left on the clock Van Der Drift set his sights on an overall podium, closing the gap to Riegel from ten seconds to under two. A two second post-race penalty for Riegel allowed Van Der Drift and Kingsford to claim third overall as well as the class victory.

The penultimate European round of the season saw Levet start from the front row alongside Championship rival Geraci as Tribaudini took the Am pole position. At the start Levet got the jump on Geraci and took the race-lead but Tribaudini dropped to thirteenth, ceding the Am class lead to Perolini. When the pit window opened Levet held a slender one second advantage over Geraci and Tribaudini was running second in Am. Both drivers stayed on track until the end of the window, pitting on lap eighteen for Putera and Randazzo. The battle at the front resumed with Putera holding off Leitch, Knopp and Fontana as Randazzo tried to close the gap to Ciglia in the lead of the Am class. Leitch finally found a way past Putera as the race entered the final five minutes but the VSR driver finished a clear second to move into the lead of the overall Championship. In the Am race Randazzo was spun around by Lewandowski on the last lap and, after losing time getting going again, took the chequered flag fourth in class.

For the final race of the European Championship Putera started from row six after losing his best lap to track limits and Randazzo was third fastest in Am. At the start Putera made a crucial pass to get ahead of Knopp, his main Championship rival, and ran tenth at the end of the first lap. Randazzo kept ahead of the Am Championship leader Ciglia for his whole stint and with limited overtakes throughout the field both cars pitted at the start of the window. Levet took over the 6 car from Putera and Tribaudini jumped into the 66. The battles on track, and for the titles, resumed with Levet holding off Geraci and Tribaudini trying to put as many cars as possible between himself and Perolini. In a frantic final stint Levet kept Geraci at bay and they took the chequered flag in seventh and eighth overall. A post-race penalty for track limits inverted the positions but it was still enough to give Putera the title and consolidate fourth overall for Levet. In the Am race Tribaudini hauled the 66 car into the class lead but a last minute overtake on  Lewandowski from Perolini meant the VSR drivers had to settle for runners-up, losing the Am Championship by a single point.

Pole position for Van Der Drift meant the 298 VSR Huracan started from the front row for the final Asian race. Leitch led from Van Der Drift out of the first corner but racing was immediately halted as the Safety Car was called out whilst Fitramadhan was retrieved from the gravel. Racing resumed on lap three and Leitch and Van Der Drift immediately pulled out a gap to the cars behind them as they scrapped over the lead. By the time the pit window opened they had pulled out 9 seconds over the rest of the field and twenty seconds to the third placed Pro-Am car. On lap thirteen a risky attempt to pass resulted in Leitch spinning and Van Der Drift taking the lead but earning himself a ten second penalty, served during the driver change on lap sixteen. Kingsford took over and rejoined second in Pro-Am with Liang just behind him. On lap twenty-one Liang found a way past as both cars caught up to class leader Song. A lap later they were both past and Kingsford went on to take the chequered flag second in Pro-Am.
